Condolences
Please accept my deepest sympathy on the loss of your loved one. May God almighty, father of tender mercies and all comfort continue to strengthen you all (2 Corinthians 1: 3,4). We all eagerly await the fulfillment of God's promise to completely remove death, tears, mourning, outcry and pain (Revelation 21:4). The Bible also provides assurance of a resurrection hope for our dead loved ones (John 5:25). May these promises from God continue to bring you comfort. I was deeply saddened when I received the news of the passing of Shades. I was fortunate enough to have known him. Shades was just not my drivers ed. teacher, not just my gym teacher, not just my coach, he was my friend. I looked up to him, admired him and respected him. Shades coached a lot of great runners at CHS. During my time at Carteret High School, his coaching guided me to becoming the 1st and only Carteret High School Cross Country County Champion in 1987. I remember running our hill workouts near the train trestle (which is longer there) by CWV at the end of Carteret Avenue. Shades yelling " Come on, dig, go get it". I remember getting a letter from him each summer, letting me know that our Cross Country training would begin soon. I always wanted it to start sooner. All the runs...The front loop, the back loop, the white church in Woodbridge, the Brown Church in Sewaren. Shades was out there in those grey "BIKE" shorts and that yellow pickup truck. The trips down to Thompson Park, Holmdel Park and Shades telling me " Your Ready". It was talks in his office. It was him telling me "Not to run my race before I run my race". It was the guidance from a man to a teenager. It has been over 25 years since I graduated HS and running has stayed with me throughout my life. I recently was able to tell Shades how much he impacted my life and I am so grateful for that opportunity.
My heart will never be the same. May God hold you in the palm of his hand my dear friend.
Coach "Shades" Thank you for giving me an appreciation and love for a sport that I never dreamed of being invovled in as High School Freshmen. But with your love of the sport I learned alot over the four years you were my Coach, I have been involved in Track and Field now for over over 30 years as both an Official and Coach and have you to thank for that. I am so sorry I never got the chance to tell you that in person. To the Shadell Family I am so sorry for your loss, He was truely a great man and Coach.
I was fortunate to have grown up in Carteret, a town with many great families and people. Shades was one of those people. He was my phys ed teacher for 4 years. He was a great man who I respected very much. Rest in peace.
Track coach for four years at carteret high school. Often thought of when returning to town and walking past what was a unique undersized cinder track. Still have cinders in knees. Made lasting impression and am a better man for having met him. Sorry I never got to say thank you.
The staff of MacFadden Funeral Home extend our deepest condolences to you and your family on the passing of Art. Please accept our heartfelt sympathy for your loss. May our thoughts and prayers provide comfort for your family during this difficult time.
