Obituary of Betty J. Smith

Betty J. Smith, 89, of White Township, Belvidere, NJ, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 11, 2022 at St. Luke’s Warren with her loving family at her side.

Born on October 22, 1932 in Riverton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Longyhore and Beatrice Breymaier Longyhore.

Betty was employed by Owens-Brockway, formerly IMCO, for 36 years as a quality control technician before retiring. She made many dear and longtime friends over those working years.

Betty was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend and all were most important to her. She loved playing her weekly card games, cruising, and organizing Country View bus trips to many interesting places. Betty loved to decorate with beautiful bright flowers and entertaining while telling many interesting stories. She had a special interest in St. Jude Hospital for Children.

Betty was a member of the Belvidere United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her husband Norman; granddaughter, Brianna; brothers, Carl and George; sisters, Thelma, Libby and Vada; daughter-in-law, Leia Smith.

Surviving are her five children, Larry (Betsy) of Mt. Royal, NJ, Bryan of Bangor, PA, Deborah Rodriguez (Carlos) of Mt. Pleasant, TX, Linda Wessner of Phillipsburg, NJ, Bonnie Rudd (Stephen) of White Township, NJ; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul; and many nieces and nephews.

Betty will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Funeral Service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, September 16, 2002 at MacFadden Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Belvidere Cemetery. Friends may call from 12 noon to 2:00 PM at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made in Betty’s memory to Belvidere United Methodist Church or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
