Obituary of Flora Lorraine Aaroe

Flora Lorraine Van Hecke Aaroe, “Flo”, passed away peacefully at home with her loving family by her side July 11, 2022.

Born on May 9, 1932, Flo was the daughter of the late Leopold Van Hecke and Flora Richardson Van Hecke. Flo graduated from Westfield High School and attended Union Junior College while working at NJ Bell telephone company in Newark, NJ.

In those days, Flo loved visiting the Jersey Shore with her friends, playing bridge and the game of golf. Flo then married and moved to Somerset County where she devoted her life to raising her four children. Eventually moving to Panther Valley in 1969 where Flo was a founding member of the Panther Valley Ecumenical Church, she also taught Sunday School and was an active member of the community. Flo loved playing golf, sewing, cooking, needlework and knitting sweaters for her children, grandchildren, neighbors and friends. Flo’s door was always open to all family and friends. Flo moved to Belvidere in 1983 where she resided with her late husband. Flo and the Judge enjoyed family gatherings, going out to dinner, gardening, and walking their dogs around the neighborhood. They enjoyed traveling the world visiting over 50 countries. Flo loved sharing her generous spirit by making cookies and date nut bread for friends, neighbors, local businesses and anyone needing a lift. Flo moved to the Brookfield section of White Township in 2001. Flo loved living in Brookfield where she was a member of the Solitaire Club, Golf Group, and enjoyed socializing with her wonderful neighbors.

Anyone who knew Flo, knows Flo was the most beautiful, generous soul, always sharing a positive word, counting her blessings, sharing the love, had the greatest laugh, was always giving thanks to God for a beautiful life.

Flo is survived by three children, seven grandchildren, one great grandson, and many, many friends. Flo will be greatly missed.

Flo wanted no tears at her passing and in only Flo fashion, asked for us to have a party to celebrate her life and to count our blessings, something Flo did every day. Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at Mattars, 1115 Rt. 517, Allamuchy, NJ.
