George A. Dickison, 82, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, a long-time resident of White Township, NJ, passed away Monday, February 15, 2016 at Warren Haven, Mansfield Twp., NJ. He fought a courageous battle with Parkinson Disease.
Born in Phillipsburg, NJ on December 6, 1933, he was the youngest of the late John and Elizabeth Phillips Dickison's 10 children. He is predeceased by brothers, William, John, Ralph, Norman, and Fred; sisters, Dorothy Wildrick and Helen Smith.
George retired in 1996 from Hoffmann-LaRoche, Belvidere, where he worked in the distribution center. Earlier in his career he worked for M&M Mars, Hackettstown. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1962, primarily in Germany. He was a 1952 graduate of Belvidere High School, where he was All-State in three sports; football, baseball and basketball. He received many accolades for his athletic accomplishments at the county level. George also played semi-professional baseball in the 1950's.
George was a longtime active member of the Buttzville United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, serving as vice president of the local chapter; Society of the Descendants of Washington's Army at Valley Forge. He enjoyed working with his hands, having built several homes. George was a traveler and an avid sports fan; lifelong fan of Boston Red Sox. He particularly enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports.
Surviving are his devoted family, wife of 55 years, Judith A. Pursell Dickison; daughter, Denise Dickison Smith and her husband Joseph; son, Douglas Dickison and his wife Rosemarie; four grandchildren, Connor, Drew, Hunter, and Daniella; brothers, Arthur and Warren; many nephews and nieces.
Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Buttzville United Methodist Church, White Township. Interment will follow in the Buttzville Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at MacFadden Funeral Home, 325 Hardwick Street, Belvidere, NJ and from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at the Buttzville United Methodist Church.
