Frederick H. Miller, 97, of Belvidere, NJ, passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2015 at his home.
Born on November 4, 1918 in Easton, PA, he was the son of the late Horace and Nora Stires Miller. He moved to Belvidere when ten years old and attended Belvidere Schools.
In the 1930's, Fred was part of the Civilian Conservation Corps. In January 1941, he was drafted into the US Army. He was part of the 119th Medical Battalion, 44th Division serving in France, then the Rhineland and Austria.
On December 25, 1941 he married Sue Hess. This Christmas they would have celebrated 74 years of marriage.
Fred had worked as a machinist for Celanese and ultimately retired from Georgia Pacific.
He was active in the community and the local Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Belvidere V.F.W., American Legion, Sons of the Civil War Veterans and a sixty-five year member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Belvidere serving as a deacon and elder and attended many sessions with the late Reverend John Robertson.
In his later years, he relished talking about Belvidere as a young man and his uncle George who would drive his team of horses to town for supplies and water. Fred enjoyed trout fishing in the area streams.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three sisters, Edith, Edna, and Doris.
He will be missed by his wife, Sue; son, Charles and his wife Lynn; grandchildren, Chris, Mark, Carol (Carolina), Lori, Kimberly and Gregory; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson.
Masonic Services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 5, 2015 at the Presbyterian Church of Belvidere, 224 Mansfield Street, followed by the Funeral Service. Interment with Military Honors will be in Belvidere Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, December 4, 2015 at MacFadden Funeral Home, 325 Hardwick Street, Belvidere.
