Obituary of Barry Gibisser

Barry Gibisser, of the Counrty View Village section of White Township, Belvidere, NJ, died Tuesday morning, September 12, 2012, at the Care Center of Brakeley Park, Lopatcong Township, NJ. He was 67 years old. Born on July 9, 1945 in Allentown, Pennsylvania, he lived the last ten years of his life fruitfully and happily in Belvidere, NJ. He graduated from King's College in Pennsylvania, and taught American history, psychology, and sociology at Sparta High School in New Jersey for 36 years before retiring in 2003. He coached track and the debate team, founded and developed a Peer Development Program (PDP), and more recently led a Men's Club in Belvidere. He will be remembered variedly: as a dedicated teacher and coach; a patient and proud father, loving quietly in his own way; a fledgling musician with aspirations as fast as his fingers; a barterer; a bargainer; a resolute caretaker; a debater; a collector; and a man who could never offer enough of himself or his time to his neighbors and friends. He will be remembered in motion, walking and biking throughout his neighborhood, strumming a guitar or tapping out rhythms to favorite songs on countertops and tables. He will be remembered as being thoroughly human, with faults and with virtue, a man who did not love ostentatiously, but loved well, and deeply, with faith and persistence. Barry is survived by his mother, Kathryn Gibisser of Allentown, PA, three children, Kristen Hanusek of Ledgewood, NJ, Laura Beatham of Dover, NH, Michael Gibisser of Chicago, IL, and four grandchildren. He leaves behind an overwhelming community of individuals whose lives he touched and inspired, a loving companion, Gen Hansen of Belvidere, NJ, and a myriad of stories to be shared. He will be sorely missed.
