Obituary of D. Ralph Coppersmith

D. Ralph Coppersmith, 81, of Belvidere, NJ, passed away on Monday, November 3, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital, Bethlehem, PA. Born on August 10, 1927 in Florham Park, NJ, he was the son of the late Howard and Hilda Green Coppersmith. Mr. Coppersmith was a 1945 graduate of Belvidere High School. His occupations spanned from his younger years as a farmer to a well known and respected appraiser of antiquities and fine arts. Mr. Coppersmith's accomplishments and memberships include serving on the Belvidere Town Council for several terms; co-founder of the Belvidere Community Pool; Belvidere Shade Tree Commission; Warren County Shade Tree Commission; Warren County Republican Committee; retired member of the American Antiques Appraisers Association; Warren County Projects Committee; Warren County Library Commission serving as Director of the County Library Board for several terms; and instrumental in developing the plan for relocating the Warren County Library Headquarters. Mr. Coppersmith's interests included being an avid fly fisherman, hunter, bird watcher, gardener, reader and a 47 year guardian of Garret Wall Park. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Harriett Hosier Coppersmith; two daughters, Cynthia Coppersmith Korch and her husband Kenneth of Plainfield Township, PA and MaryAnne Coppersmith of Shreveport, LA; five grandchildren, Alex and Peter Korch, Kelsey, Cale and Wade Knighton; a brother, Richard; a sister Audrey Lukens; many nephews and nieces. He was a friend and mentor to many. A brother Eugene and a sister Frances had died earlier.
