Obituary of Lester J. Rowe

Lester J. Rowe, 96, of Belvidere, NJ, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at the Care Center of Brakeley Park, Lopatcong Twp., NJ. Born on July 13, 1918 in Belvidere, NJ, he was the son of the late John and Anna Shipps Rowe. Lester had lived his entire life in the Belvidere area. Lester had served in the US Navy during WWII on the USS Mayo, a destroyer. He was inducted into the NJ WWII Hall of Fame. Les was a member of the Carl D. Archer American Legion Post 528, White Twp., NJ. Les is best known as a mechanic, a master of everything, able to fix anything for everyone. He had owned and operated a trucking business, Lester J. Rowe Trucking Co., for over 25 years working for the Port Murray Dairy Co. picking up from local farms. Later after he sold his business he had worked for Agway. Les was the oldest active member of the Good Will Fire Company where he had served as a Former Chief. He was also the oldest active member of the Blue Mountain Antique Gas and Steam Association. Les also had his pilot license. Lester and his wife of 72 years, Dorothy Rue Rowe, were world travelers, visiting Australia, Thailand, China, New Zealand, Hawaii, and Europe. Les was a helping and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. Les was predeceased by a son, Lester Lee Rowe. Surviving in addition to his wife Dorothy are three sons, James (Tachaya), Robert (Carol), and Ronald (Linda); 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; many nephews, nieces, sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws.
