Gary V. Ayers (90) of White Township, died peacefully at home Sunday, January 5, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.

Gary was born, May 23, 1934, in Vienna, NJ. He was the son of the late Lewis W. and Delphene (Vansyckle) Ayers. He was the loving husband of Doris M. (Merrick) Ayers who passed away in 2019. They danced through 60 years of marriage together.

Gary was a graduate of Belvidere High School, class of 52. He worked as an auto mechanic at his family business before enlisting in the US Naval forces in 1953. He completed Aviation school in Norman, OK then Aviation Electronic Tech. School in Memphis, TN. Gary was then assigned to the USS Boxer CVS-21, an anti-submarine carrier, for its deployment to the pacific off the shores of North Korea. He finished his naval service in San Deigo, CA and was honorably discharged in 1957. He came home and worked as an auto mechanic at Ayers Garage with his father and brother Todd. Gary was also employed at J.T. Baker Chemical (Mallinckrodt) for 40 years as a Boiler operator and then moved to wastewater treatment operations before retirement in 1997. He was a member of the Belvidere American Legion Post 131 for 31 years.

Gary stayed active in his community after retirement and was loved by all for his easy-going demeanor and willingness to lend a helping hand. He was always smiling and ready to have a good time. If there was music, he would be there to dance.

He is survived by his children, Karen Glynn of Fredrica, DE, Kevin Ayers, wife Jean of Belvidere, NJ and Kelle Ayers of Belvidere, NJ; grandchildren, Falan, Kaylan, Nicholas, Kyle, Thomasina, Quinn, Gabriella, and Lilly; great-grandchildren, James, Remy, Savvy, Baker, Rhett, and Rowan; niece, Nancy Jeanne (Ayers) Dornich; nephew, Scott Ayers.

He is predeceased by his parents, wife, Doris (Merrick) Ayers, and his brother, J. Todd Ayers.

Private services are under the direction of MacFadden Funeral Home, Belvidere, NJ. There will be no calling hours. A memorial picnic will be held later in the year for family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Belvidere American Legion Post 131 in Gary’s memory.
