Obituary of Elmer R. Howell

Elmer R. Howell, 83, of Belvidere, NJ, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at St. Luke’s Warren Hospital.

Born on January 2, 1940 in Easton, PA, he was the son of the late Ellis and Velma Linaberry Howell.

Elmer was a 1957 graduate of Belvidere High School. He then joined the US Army and served from 1957 to 1963 in the 82^nd Airborne Division receiving his Parachutist Badge and Rifle Marksman Medal.

Elmer had been a Blue Seal Engineer for BASF for many years before retiring.

He was a member of the Belvidere United Methodist Church.

Elmer served as Vice President of the Board of Trustees of the Belvidere Cemetery Association and had been the superintendent of the Belvidere Cemetery for many years.

He was a Life member of the Belvidere American Legion, Post 131; a member of the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the 82^nd Airborne Division Association; and Recollections, a trivia club.

Surviving is his wife of 59 years, Carol Davis Howell; a daughter, Tina McAuliffe and her husband William of Williams Twp., PA; a son, Richard Howell and his wife Heather of Bridgewater, NJ; six grandchildren, Michael McAuliffe and his wife Christina, Kyle McAuliffe, Daniella Fisher and her husband Brad, Anthony Howell, Cpl. Zachary Howell, USMC, and Vincent Howell; a sister, Nancy Dietz; several nephews and nieces.

Funeral Services with an American Legion Service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, December 23, 2023, at MacFadden Funeral Home. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Belvidere Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, December 22, 2023 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Elmer’s memory to Tunnel to Towers (T2T.org), St. Jude Children’s Hospital; Belvidere Ambulance Corps or Good Will Fire Company No. 1.
