Obituary of Carl J. Hoops
Carl J. Hoops, 79, of Hope, NJ, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at home with his loving family at his side.
Born on December 22, 1943, in Dover, NJ, he was the son of the late William E. and Edith E. (Sumner) Hoops.
Carl had served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He was a machinist for Bergen Tool and Machine Company, Hackettstown, NJ for over 27 years. After retiring, he went on to start a second career as a fuel tanker driver for Fuel Rite Oil of Blairstown, NJ.
Carl was a man of great integrity, a great teacher and a very loyal husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He loved life to the fullest. Carl loved building, fixing and making engines of all sorts; steam engines, hit and miss engines, motorcycle engines, you name it - he could fix it or machine the parts for it. He had a great sense of humor, knew how to play, dance and loved playing guitar. He loved a good debate and knew how to hold a conversation with just about anyone he met.
In addition to his parents, Carl was predeceased by two brothers, William Carl Hoops and George William Hoops; a brother-in-law, Robert Lowthert, Sr..
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Marian (Hinkel) Hoops; daughter, Cherie Steinberg and her husband Dan; grandson, Tyler Larsen; a sister, Judith May Lowthert.
Calling hours will be held Friday December 8, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and Saturday December 9, 2023 from 10:00 AM to the time of service at MacFadden Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, December 9, 2023 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Hope Moravian Cemetery, Hope, NJ.
